I (F26) received a message claiming my husband (M28) was being unfaithful. The sender was his ex-girlfriend’s best friend.
For context, my husband and I have been together for six years. Our relationship has always been strong—no arguments, open communication, and a shared understanding of life. Before we met, he lived several states away. We connected during a work course, stayed in touch for a year, and eventually he transferred jobs to be with me.

A year before we dated, he had a two-year relationship with a woman named Charlene. I knew of her but never thought much until early in our relationship when she accused me of hacking her social media. I showed my husband my devices to prove my innocence, and he reassured her it wasn’t me. Shortly after, Charlene posted his phone number online, accusing him of stalking her. He endured harassment but blocked the numbers, and eventually it stopped.
Fast forward five years—we hadn’t heard from Charlene since. Recently, we visited his hometown because his sister had a baby. While there, I received random friend requests from women I didn’t know. My husband said he barely recognized one from school, so I ignored them.
Then came an Instagram message from another woman in town. She claimed my husband had been messaging her on Tinder and sent screenshots. I immediately showed him. He unlocked his phone, encouraged me to check everything, and even downloaded Tinder to prove his number wasn’t linked.
The screenshots were suspicious. His “verified” profile used an old photo from his brother’s Facebook—one Charlene could access. The texting style was unlike his usual tone. Oddly, the replies matched the only two times I wasn’t with him that day, which unsettled me.
Still, he wasn’t glued to his phone during the trip. The girl who messaged me was Charlene’s close friend, and the timing—us visiting his sister for the first time in six years—felt deliberate. Why would he risk everything, especially after we just purchased a condo together?
The only lingering doubts are the verification badge and the coincidental timing of the supposed messages.
Update: I messaged the girl saying my husband hadn’t had his phone for days. Her reply was simply, “Oh… okay… welcome.”
